SPONTANEOUS ABORTION SYMPTOMS AND LOSS OF PREGNANT BLOOD: SO I HAVE
Spontaneous abortion in the presence of blood, in the first weeks of pregnancy, can be confused with implant losses. When blood is lost and there are pains in the lower abdomen it is a must to go to the hospital. Here is my story and how I understood that the pregnancy was interrupted.
pregnancy symptomsPremetto that, now that I write, I am waiting for my second daughter, now at the 21st week, but I would like to tell you about that time, at the sixth week, my previous pregnancy was interrupted, ended in a miscarriage on the very day of Christmas 2015. The girl who is now in her lap is waiting for December 17, 2016 and who knows that it is not born on the 25th day!
But here is my story that I hope can be of help or comfort to other mothers who are in this situation.

I have never particularly loved Christmas, even if, since becoming a mother, it has taken on a special flavor. It's really true that it's the children's party!
Usually at Christmas we go to the spa, but this year in anticipation of the upcoming trip to Florida we stayed in Milan and we had dinner (very soon!) At my mom's house: she, my husband, the baby and me. I had not told her for a week that Babyrisparmio would have a little brother or sister and that she would become a grandmother.
Unlike the first time, I did not get pregnant "by chance". We had looked for this pregnancy. We were both very happy and even though it was our second time, we still felt a little lost, with that feeling that, together with joy, catches all future parents unprepared and makes you say: "And now?".
But let's go back to our Christmas dinner.
It was about half past six, when after peeing, cleaning, I realized that the toilet paper was dirty with a little red.
Not a deep red, rather a mixture of mucus with some red gum in the middle. I did not jump for joy but I was not too worried because I know that small losses can be normal during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester.
Also, during the past pregnancy, I had had implant losses.
My implant losses had been a real menstruation (I usually have a medium-abundant flow that lasts 5-6 days), coinciding at the time when I should have had the first menstrual cycle after fertilization.
implant losses Usually implant losses - if there are - arrive a few days before waiting for menstruation or riding with those days. I remind everyone that it is not a matter of menstruation but of a blood loss, more or less abundant, more or less long, that coincides with the implantation of the embryo, which climbs up the tube and settles in the uterus (if it does not do this backward path, settling first - that is in the tuba - we would talk about extrauterine pregnancy).
With my first daughter, implant losses lasted for about two days and, in my naivety, I thought of a somewhat strange menstruation; I know instead of cases where the loss is single and / or ends in a couple of hours. In short, in these things, the organism's reaction is very subjective. I also remember not having felt that pain in the belly typical of menstruation even if the blood in addition to being brownish (as is usually in the losses from implantation) was, at times, also a bright red.
When, however, on Christmas Day I saw that blood, I immediately realized that it was not a loss of implantation, because it was too late. I was already at the sixth week, so two weeks after the menstrual wait. I began to worry when I saw that the blood did not pass and even increased: I was dirty just the panties but if I passed the toilet paper was always there, more and more red and copious. Moreover, as the hours passed, I felt a pain in the lower abdomen, very similar to the menstrual one: bearable but still annoying.
Yes, it was blood of a deep red, live blood and red blood is never a good sign in pregnancy even though I know of well-finished gestations that have had to deal with this stress for all nine months. But if we talk in general, the red blood losses in the nine months must alert the future mother who must go to the emergency room for obstetrics and gynecology as soon as possible for a check.
I recommend that you do not change your underwear or clean when you go to the hospital, because the first thing they will do is to check the slip or the panty liner or absorbent to check the intensity of the flow and the color of the blood. Also take a picture with your mobile phone to the toilet paper soiled with blood if necessary and take it with you to show it to your doctor.
So I did, on Christmas Eve, about nine o'clock in the evening, when I went to the Mangiagalli hospital in Milan, where after a check I was told that everything was fine and that "the loss of blood during pregnancy can happen, Mrs!".
pregnancy losses
From the transvaginal ultrasound the little heart was not yet visible but the embryo was there. The only anomaly was the date of gestation: according to the gynecologist, the size of the embryo was closer to a pregnancy of 5 weeks than 6 weeks.
This could mean two things:
or my dating was wrong and the fertilization had occurred later than the rough calculations (taking into account an ovulation corresponding to the 14th day after the last menstrual period)
or the pregnancy was interrupted a week ago
Of course the second was true.
The transvaginal ultrasound was first made to me by the doctor on duty and then by the "apprentice" doctor. The Mangiagalli, being a university campus, in fact, hosts many students and specialists and therefore there is the risk of ending up in their hands. There is nothing wrong, in fact, they must learn! But with the doctor-in-law I did not feel bad, while the second one who visited me was very abrupt so much so that, despite my very high tolerance threshold, I complained with a couple of "Ahia!" And "Piano" please, "to hear me then answer:" Quiet, it's not that I'm using it as a guinea pig "(Yes, he said just like that while pushing the probe deep and at the same time he was pressing his hand on his stomach).
Amen.
Perhaps to show themselves confident and arrogant in front of their "superiors", these young doctors tend to tread a little 'hand and take the longest step of the leg. I say this because it is not the first time I notice this approach in Mangiagalli.
But let's move on.
I go home with the prescription of two progesterone eggs to be inserted into the vaginal canal (to be exact 100mg Progeffik) in the evening, before going to bed. Progesterone relaxes the uterine walls and serves as a deterrent to contractions. Up to a certain point.
As the doctor of the ps rightly explained to me, "in the case of a spontaneous abortion in progress, there is little to do: progesterone can only slow down the course of events but not eliminate them". Therefore these eggs can be useful only if there is no abortion in progress, otherwise they are completely ineffective, as they were in my case.
Not even 24 hours later, in fact, I was back in the emergency room, this time with the awareness that something was not serious. The losses had increased and they had become a real menstruation that had forced me to wear and change more absorbents. Also contemporaneously I felt the continuous cramps in the lower abdomen, this time much more painful, similar to those of a menstrual cycle.
The transvaginal ultrasound sanctioned what I already knew: there was nothing left. We could not see neither the gestational camera nor the embryo. Everything had been expelled.
The doctor on duty prescribed Metergin for five days, a medicine that acts exactly the opposite of progesterone: it causes the uterus to contract. I had to take two tablets a day for five days; tablets that within a couple of hours made me appear very strong pains in the lower abdomen so much to force me to bed with painkillers. Metergin is also an antihaemorrhagic that increases the flow of blood in the exit to help the uterus to clean itself well, but it does so in a controlled manner (note however too much blood go back to the hospital). In fact I did not have to do any scraping.
And now? We had to start all over again.
After an abortion, doctors recommend waiting at least one cycle. I menstruations came back after about 40 days (after the first pregnancy I had a flow that appeared on average every 26 days).
This pregnancy ended badly after two months of attempts. The joy was so much that we had already told the kindergarten teacher, some friends, their future grandparents bis and even our daughter. For this reason, with this last pregnancy, I have waited so long to say it; we wanted to be sure that everything would be fine.
spontaneous abortion symptoms
An experience like this marks you a bit. Above all, he scored the first three months of the current pregnancy because, every time I went to the bathroom, I was afraid to find the toilet paper soiled with blood.
Once it happened, after a more decisive effort than the others. I did not go to the emergency room but I sent the photo to my gynecologist who advised me to take those progesterone eggs that I had left from my previous experience. In this case they are served.
The first trimester of this new pregnancy I passed really bad (when you are already anxious because you usually wonder if the fetus will be healthy or not ...). I was afraid to lift any weight and never take my baby in her arms was very hard. I was stupidly alarmed by the vitamins Centrum Woman (taken in the United States) that I took every day, when I saw that the ration of vitamin A covered 70% of the daily requirement (and I eat many tomatoes, food rich in vitamin A). This is because an excessive dose of vitamin A in the first trimester can lead to malformations of the fetus (in this regard, avoid beauty creams that contain retinol in this period and take specific supplements for pregnancy). Do you think that for superstition I have carefully avoided downloading applications on pregnancy, because with the previous one I had done immediately.
So I got a thousand paranoia unfounded but when things happen to you like that, you're a bit burned.
So early spontaneous abortions, like the one that happened to me in the first few weeks, except pathologies in the mother that expose it to phenomena of poliabortività, are linked in 99% of cases to genetic anomalies that do not allow the embryo to develop. So, if we want, it is a demonstration of how perfect our body is that it naturally expels what would be incompatible with life.
Do you know what weighed me more than this situation?
The time factor.
To have "lost" six months. But not me; Babyrisparmio, who will now have four and a half years difference with his sister and not four years. I know it's a waste and that six months are nothing in the span of a lifetime. But I felt I was already late, in the sense that I would have liked to have two children a little closer in age (not too much, because I would not have made it physically and psychologically and I wanted to fully enjoy every nuance of my first baby). These are irrational things, let's call them stupid by ... but that's it! 🙂
Now we are waiting for our second daughter and the only thing that matters to us, of course, is that she is healthy. Everything else has passed.
A wish and a hug to all the mothers who are or have found themselves in my situation.
And now that you've come this far you can also read the post because I had to spend three months of my pregnancy in bed!
